Skindred

UK

This quintessentially British, more properly Welsh, band has with huge success combined elements of ragga, punk, heavy metal, alternative rock, reggae, electronic music, hip-hop, ska – in a word one hell of an enjoyable babel. The band was formed in 1988 by singer Benji Webbe from Newport, South Wales, after the split of his former group Dubwar. Skindred rose phoenix-like from the ashes thanks to the unfading energy of Benji. Their debut album was called “Babylon“. With the new line-up the band was a favourite of live shows, so it took them five years to re-enter the studio to record the new album “Roots Rock Riot“, released in 2005. Live demand sky-rocketed again. Thrilled were old as well as new fans. Skindred has played to tens of thousands of people in Albion and elsewhere in Europe as well as in Japan and Russia’s extreme sports festival. Their third album “Union Black“ was released in 2011. All in all Skindred has sold over half a million records worldwide... And they don’t do bad shows as Benji never gives less than 800%. “Onstage it’s my job to get people up and moving, not make everyone depressed,“ he declares. At their Golden God awards magazine Metal Hammer announced Skindred to be the best live band.
